Unveiling the 2024 SCAR-PA2F Fellow in Antarctic Research: Laura Dalman

Press release

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) are proud to announce the recipient of the 2024 SCAR-PA2F Fellowship, awarded to Laura Dalman from the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies at the University of Tasmania.

This fellowship, part of the Foundation's ongoing support for early-career scientists, encourages the active involvement of young researchers in deepening our understanding of Antarctica. It fully aligns with one of the pillars of the Polar Initiative, which aims to support the next generation of polar researchers.

The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) announced today the recipients of the 2024 SCAR Fellowships. Five promising researchers have been selected, among them Laura Dalman, who has been chosen to receive the SCAR-PA2F Fellowship, supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

The SCAR Fellowship program aims to allow early-career researchers to join a scientific team in another country, thereby opening new perspectives and creating long-lasting research partnerships. Through this partnership, the Foundation is proud to contribute to the global effort to advance polar research and protect these ever-evolving ecosystems.

Laura’s project, titled "Shedding light on Antarctic ice algae in a changing climate," focuses on studying sea ice algae to better understand their crucial role in polar ecosystems. Her research broadly covers both the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Thanks to the SCAR-PA2F Fellowship, Laura Dalman will have the opportunity to travel to UiT, the Arctic University of Norway, where she will work alongside a local scientific team on her project.

A pillar of the Polar Initiative

The partnership between the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) reflects a shared commitment to advancing scientific knowledge, protecting polar regions, and adapting to climate change. Together, we work to support the next generation of polar researchers.

The Polar Initiative aims to foster the capacity building of ECRs, promote international science diplomacy, and raise awareness of the polar crisis.

Applications for the 2025 SCAR Fellowships will open next year. To learn more about the application process, please visit the following link: SCAR Fellowship.
