Dr. Olav Orheim has had a lifelong career in polar science, research management, and science diplomacy. He has participated in more than 30 field seasons in both the Arctic and the Antarctic and has authored over 80 scientific publications on glacier mass balance, climate change, icebergs, remote sensing, and polar governance. Dr. Orheim has held several senior leadership roles, including Managing Director of the Norwegian Polar Institute and Head of International Polar Year (IPY) funding at the Research Council of Norway. He is currently a member of the Scientific and Technical Committee of the Fondation Prince Albert II of Monaco, a role he has held since 2012, and has served as Chair of the Fjordviten Foundation since 2020.
